Ongoing Projects
American Nukes
35,000 miles, cross-country, over four years photographing nuclear weapons and still not done.
The Black and White Forest
In 2020, a forest fire way out in the desert gutted the world’s largest and densest Joshua tree forest. I’ve been making images there since 2019.
Antietam
This project started in 2004, and I’ve been back, again and again, trying to learn the lessons of this great battle.
Airplane Project
In this itty-bitty computer screen, images you’d never know that I’m making pictures of airplanes.
47 Views of The Canyon
They say it’s the greatest canyon on Earth. They’re right. The most beautiful. And somehow, one of the most political landscapes you’ll ever see.
Hotels
I’ve stayed in over a thousand hotel rooms, and all of them, once your eyes adjust, are full of light.
Zooscapes
Zoos (I’ve photographed in dozens of them now) offer incredible opportunities for serious image-making.
Yellowstone
Yellowstone is a tricky place for photographs, and this project is a bit sprawling as a result. But I think I see the way forward.
Cahokia
I’ve worked here several times, sotting photographs, shooting video–all of it an utter failure. Until last year, when it all (finally!) came together.
